The birthplace of Arabica coffee, Ethiopia produces some of
the most exciting coffees in the world. Coffees from the
Southwestern (Gedeo Zone) region of Yirgacheffe are
processed using a sophisticated washed process. This
produces some of the most fragrant and distinctive
coffee. After 2008, most of Ethiopia’s coffees (those not
privately owned or from farms larger than 30 hectares) legally
had to go through the ECX(Ethiopia Coffee Exchange), at
which point they lost their traceability. But in recent years, the
government has worked to change this, and traceability has
largely been restored. Today, a buyer can see the exact grade,
washing station and district a coffee came from. This Coffee
